My name is Alex Godard. I used TV Time for years — 136 shows, 4,671 episodes ticked, 322 movies, watch dates going back to 2018. When the service announced it would close on July 15, 2026, the question was not “which app looks nicest” but “which one takes my history without losing it”. I did not find one I liked. I built WatchTrail.
The site is made by one person, in France, with no company behind it. It is free and ad-free; your data is yours — full export in one click, account deletion without writing to anyone. A paid tier will come some day for comfort options, never for the core: tracking your shows and movies stays free.
What I write on the blog comes from what I did myself: importing my own TV Time export, measured end to end (4,606 episodes recovered out of 4,673, in 225 seconds), comparisons with Trakt, Simkl and Serializd checked on a date I display, what TV Time did better and what WatchTrail does not do yet. When I am wrong, I fix it and date the fix.
Show and movie data comes from TMDB (WatchTrail uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB), and for some articles from TheTVDB, with visible attribution.
Nothing. Tracking shows and movies, the import, the calendar, notifications, statistics, universes and games are free, ad-free, with no data resale. If a paid tier ever exists, it will never touch tracking itself: only extra comfort, and everything free today stays free.
