Serializd vs Letterboxd: which one for what?

This is the simplest comparison of all, because these two are not fighting over anything: Serializd does TV, Letterboxd does film. The real question is not 'which is better' but 'what do I do if I watch both'.

What Serializd et Letterboxd does better than us

  • **Serializd is excellent and entirely free**: episode-by-episode tracking, ratings and reviews per season, an active community. Nothing sits behind a paywall.
  • **Letterboxd is the film reference**, and that is not up for debate: the depth of its lists, reviews and community has no equivalent.
  • Serializd imports from TV Time **and** from Trakt, which makes it a comfortable way out.
  • Each does one thing and does it well — that is a design choice, not a gap.

Where Serializd et Letterboxd falls short

  • If you watch shows **and** films, you need both accounts, two histories, two sets of statistics — and no shared total.
  • Letterboxd has been announcing TV support since 2023, and was still announcing it in 2026: that is a wait, not a feature.
  • Neither sets out to cover both at once: that is consistent with what they are, and it is the limit you will hit if you watch both.

Serializd et Letterboxd is the right pick if…

If you only watch TV, Serializd is a very good choice, free, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you only watch films, Letterboxd is still the best place on the web for it. Take them.

So where does WatchTrail fit?

WatchTrail exists for the case neither covers: everything in one place. TV and film in a single library, a single total time, a single history — and extended universes, where a film and a show tick off in the same list. Our community is younger than Letterboxd's, and that should be said: on review depth, they are ten years ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use all three?

Yes, nothing prevents it. Many keep Letterboxd for writing about film and track everything else elsewhere.

Will Letterboxd do TV?

It has been announced since the 2023 acquisition, and still was in 2026. We do not know when, and we will not speculate on someone else's roadmap.

Does Serializd cost anything?

No. All its current features are free — that is a real argument, and it deserves saying.

The real criterion: your history

Whatever tool you pick, check that it takes your TV Time export — and how. On WatchTrail, every show is matched by its ID, not by its title.
