Bingers launched in early August 2026 on the App Store and Google Play. Its author is Antonio Pinto, one of the creators of TVShow Time in 2011, which became TV Time. That makes it the most legitimate contender for TV Time's orphans, and we get the question every day: why WatchTrail rather than Bingers? Honest answer, Bingers' strengths first, everything checked on September 12, 2026 against its site, its "Our story" page, the App Store and the press (TechCrunch, 9to5Mac).
What Bingers does better than us
- The native app. iPhone, iPad, Apple Silicon Mac and Android, 16 languages, rated 4.8/5 on 427 App Store reviews as of September 12. WatchTrail is an installable web app (PWA), not a store app.
- The TV Time-style community. Comments under every episode with photos and GIFs, polls, emoji reactions, character voting. That is TV Time's DNA, rebuilt by the person who invented it. Our social side is quieter: reviews, likes, comments, a following feed, leaderboards.
- Ten import sources. TV Time's GDPR export, Trakt, Letterboxd, Simkl, BetaSeries, Refract, Suite TV, Sofa Time, plus the files from the Liberator and TV Time Data Extractor extensions. We read the TV Time ZIP as is, Liberator CSVs, Letterboxd and our master format; not Trakt or Simkl yet.
- The pedigree. Pinto founded the original app, sold it to Whipclip in 2016, left two years later, and built Bingers in reaction to the shutdown announcement. He knows this audience better than anyone.
What to know before choosing
- No browser version. Bingers lives on your phone, tablet or a recent Mac. On a Windows PC, a Chromebook or any desktop, nothing. WatchTrail opens wherever there is a browser, and the same session follows you across devices.
- The business model is not settled. Free with no in-app purchases at launch; the founder told TechCrunch he will start with voluntary contributions for server costs, then "a model around real-life gatherings" he is not detailing yet. Not a flaw, an unknown. WatchTrail is free, ad-free, and any future paid tier will never touch tracking itself.
- "Where to watch" is missing. It is the recurring request in App Store reviews. Here, every title page lists streaming platforms by country, and our "where to watch" pages cover the titles members follow.
- A young app. Version 0.2.0 in early September. Features ship fast, but they are still shipping.
What WatchTrail has that Bingers does not
- Extended universes: MCU, Star Wars, DC, Harry Potter, Alien, Fast & Furious… nineteen sagas as tickable checklists, in chronological or release order, films and shows together.
- Nine games about TV shows, including the daily Watchdle and a quiz that cannot spoil you because it only draws from what you have watched.
- Statistics and the yearly Wrapped, with the watch dates from your TV Time import preserved: your "days of your life" stay accurate.
- An indexed, readable website: title pages, universes, comparisons, import guide. What you search on Google lands here, not inside a closed app.
- A one-person project, documented in public, whose author migrated his own 4,671 episodes before offering it to you.
Who Bingers is right for
If what you miss from TV Time is the chat room under every episode, the GIFs and the polls, and you live on your phone: get Bingers, it is built for that, by the right person. If you want your history reachable from any screen, saga checklists, games, and to know where to watch, WatchTrail is built for that. Both read your TV Time export; nothing stops you from trying both with the same ZIP.
If you have no TV Time export
TV Time's servers were wiped on July 15, 2026; a data request no longer returns anything. Your phone still holds a local copy of your library, the app's DioCache.db file, recoverable from an iPhone or Android backup. Free tools convert it, and both Bingers and WatchTrail read their files. The steps are in our import guide.
